The Lighthouse

Breaking Cycles. Restoring Lives. Rebuilding Communities.

Our Vision

Trinidad and Tobago are vibrant and beautiful islands — yet behind the beauty, many of its struggles with crime, violence and broken families can be traced back to unhealed childhood trauma.

Abuse, neglect and exposure to violence leave deep wounds that follow children into adulthood. Without help, they often pass on the same pain to the next generation.

At the Lighthouse Healing Centre, we believe the cycle can be broken. We envision a nation where survivors of childhood trauma are set free from shame, fear and anger, and are equipped to live lives of peace, purpose and prosperity.

Our Mission

We exist to provide free trauma-healing programs to underserved communities across Trinidad and Tobago. Through biblical counsel, coaching and community support, we help survivors overcome unresolved pain.

Our mission is to see individuals rebuilt on the foundation of God’s love and light, rather than trapped in cycles of fear, anger and brokenness.

Time alone does not heal trauma — but together, safe guidance, truth and restoration do.

Why It Matters

Healing the wounds of the past does more than restore individuals:

It restores families, strengthens communities, and reduces cycles of violence, crime and poverty.

Graduates of our programs describe feeling as if “a weight has been lifted.”

They gain new confidence, build healthy relationships, and step into lives marked by peace and productivity.

Our Reach

We are committed to bringing trauma-healing initiatives across Trinidad and Tobago — from Port of Spain to Scarborough, from schools to prisons, and into underserved communities where hope is most needed.

Our long-term vision includes training nationals to expand this work across the Caribbean.

Meet the Founder

Carolyn Akinyemi is the founder and director of the Lighthouse Healing Centre, a non-profit organization in Trinidad and Tobago dedicated to breaking cycles of trauma, violence, and hopelessness.

Her work combines faith, psychology and practical tools for emotional resilience. She has drawn from these to develop and lead 9-week trauma recovery programs for persons from all backgrounds.

With years of experience teaching, coaching and walking with survivors of trauma, Carolyn has a passion for bringing inner healing and restoration to those who feel trapped by the pain of their past.

Above all, she believes that true transformation happens when survivors encounter the light and love of God, finding strength not just to recover, but to rise and rebuild.
